I just wanted to point out that I grow more and more tired of Perl over time. I think it is the complete lack of any reasonable data structures. And the requirement that you explicitly declare variables to be lexically scoped. And … and the absolute horror of things like
${@{$$hash->{'foo}}}}
that give me the screaming heebie-jeebies. I mean, really. Let’s get real here.
Someone remind me that the next time I have a scripting project to do, I should do it in Scheme, or learn Python. At least Python has a halfway decent object model, and reasonable library support. And I’d be learning something new, instead of wrapping my head around a brick again (with a slice of lemon).

I prefer PHP. You can use it in conjunction with a web server to script your pages going out the door, but you can also use it to create stand alone scripts.
